Getting high SSAT scores

Getting high SSAT scores and ISEE scores are essential if you want you or your child to succeed these days! Entering the school of your choice will definitely have an important impact on your child’s future. In today’s rough financial situation there’s one thing that always will be sought after, and that is highly qualified people for the jobs. Do remember that an education that can be used in different parts of the world rather than in one specific country is of more value and gives your child more flexibility. There will always be regional differences and the ability to go after the jobs wherever they are will be of great importance.

Hi I’m Henning Gustavsen I’m a teacher and a special needs teacher as well. I’ve got teaching experience from several levels of the educational system from children as young as 5 years of age to grown up College students. Most private and independent schools have a school admission test and the SSAT and ISSE is by far the most common ones. Needless to say it’s not a good idea to take the school entrance exams without proper preparation. This can be done in several ways of course. The most common one is to pay teachers to help your child in his/her preparations. This is quite expensive and lots of parents spend thousands of dollars every year on private lessons. Another approach which is far less expensive, and gives your child the needed exam training, would be to purchase a test prep program that gives your child loads of opportunities to practice test questions. In addition the best of these systems also have hours of video recordings with real professors going through examples and showing your child exactly what to pay special attention to.

Some people might claim that it’s far better with a real teacher, and being a teacher myself I wouldn’t totally disagree with them. However when it comes to cost – benefit paying a real teacher to sit for several weeks with your child is not a good idea. What I recommend and truly believe (from years of experience) to be the best solutions is. Get the desired SSAT or ISSE test preparation program. Then you hire the teacher, but make sure it’s a teacher which has experience with school entrance exams (not everyone does). Hire the teacher for a few hours and tell her that you have purchased this program and want your child to work independently with this between each lesson with the teacher. That way your child will get maximum learning from each hour spent with the teacher. I’ll recommend spending no more than 10 hours on teachers using this system. The teacher will be most useful if there’s a specific part of the test guide that your child finds more difficult. Spend the last couple of hours with the teacher on this subject. The teacher will also be useful if your child has encountered specific problems in the prep program. However do remember that some of the programs offer great support and may even answer specific questions online or by phone.

I wish you the best of luck with your Isee or ssat scores!

School Admission Test

Secondary School Admission test

In this post I want to focus on Secondary School Admission test (SSAT) and SSAT scores in particular.   I will also briefly describe the ISEE test.

School entrance exams are most commonly standardized tests that serve as a tool for the school boards and administrations to decide which pupils that meet the criteria for their school. That said it’s usually not the only thing they consider, but if your child doesn’t make a good impression on the test chances are less than slim that they will go to that school.

The Secondary School Admission test is divided into two levels based on the students’ current grade:
· Lower level for students in 5 – 7 grade
· Upper level for students in 8 – 11 grade

Some schools are far more competitive than others and every year 4 out of 5 students are rejected from these schools. Very good SSAT scores are essential for entering the school you really want your child to attend. Taking the time to read the test preparation guide thoroughly and use a test prep system is a must. I highly recommend PrivateSchoolExam to anyone taking the test. It’s affordable and really gives good quality tutoring that your child will need to excel on the test. There are lots of high quality sample exam questions and video tutorials made by real professors in this prep system.

Test Format
The test consists of five parts or sections. The student gets 25 minutes to complete the writing sample, for verbal and two quantitative sections she’ll get 30 minutes, and then for the reading section she’ll get 40 minutes.
Writing Sample
Here the student is asked to support or argue against a topic statement by using e.g. examples from his/her own experience, current events and from literature or history. Keep in mind that this part of the test is not scored by SSAT and not included in the report sent to families.

Quantitative (Math)
The student must answer 50 questions, divided into two main sections. There will be similar math problems to the ones they have in school, but in addition they’ll get some more focused on everyday life.

Verbal
The student must answer 60 questions of which 30 are synonym and the remaining analogy questions.

Reading Comprehension
After reading approximately 7 passages the student gets 40 questions related to what she read. It’s both at reading test, as well as a test to determine how well the student understands what she has read.
There are a large number of SSAT editions to make sure that no student takes the same test twice.

ISEE
The ISEE test is quite different from the SSAT in several ways. Whereas the SSAT test can be taken several times during the year, ISEE can only be taken twice a year when you apply for a certain school. The test has three levels (lower, middle and upper) compared to SSAT which has only two. In general one can say that ISEE is an easier test usually taking about 3 hours and the questions are usually easier. You have only 4 choices for each question which makes it easier to guess the correct answer. The SSAT gives you only 2, 5 hours and have 5 choices and a guessing penalty. This means that you actually loose points when you answer the question wrong. Besides being an easier test in general the ISSE has some parts that SSAT doesn’t, one is Quantitative Comparison. This is usually conceived as very difficult to children, because it’s very different from the way they learn math in school. Children are not used to this type of reasoning, so it usually quite a shock to them.

I’m sometimes asked by parents if it’s a good idea to take the SSAT before taking the ISEE to see what level their child can manage. In general this is not a good idea, the tests are simply too different and they test different aspects of the students capabilities. The best thing is to know what test you are going to take and prepare for this. Even though ISEE is administered only twice a year there are test exams in several prep programs like the PrivateSchoolExam. This gives the student a much better and more realistic practice for the test they are going to take.

The benefit of knowing the scoring system

If you want your child to perform properly on the SSAT examination, it is essential that they devote some time working and enhancing their vocabulary proficiency. Two parts of the test deals merely with terminology and knowledge, and this is unquestionably an important part to take note of. The oral section focuses on analogies and word alternatives. As you can imagine, attaining a lot on this section relies primarily on terminology understanding. The 2nd portion is reading awareness that includes examining paragraphs and replying to questions. Terminology is also necessary to acquiring a lot in this section. The good thing is, with some indictment and focus; your student will be skilled to do the work better on this section of the test. Nonetheless, you need to start test preparations ahead of time. Memorizing or cramming are surely not the recommendations to get decent results for the SSAT scoring.

SSAT scorings are worked out by merely rewarding a level for each correct answer and lowering 1/4 of a level for each wrong reply. This will match the overall of what’s categorized as ‘Raw Score’.

A quite easy tactic to boost your child’s terminology skill is to be sure they are going through a huge variety of information. They need to be reading exercise books, and some other sort of details. If they want to read a specific sort of category, such as travel, try to find them some more information that is somewhat advanced from what they previously studied and favored. Do not take too casually on the power of on-going analyses to greatly strengthen their level of vocabulary in reading and attaining good SSAT scores.

It is also vital that your child goes into the exam stuffed with good practices. For example, there are a vast range of strategies you can apply for your child to assist them in their vocabulary. Though they may not be able to examine the particular subject matter, they can continually increase their expertise.

A lot of enrollees, while looking at reasonable answers, will most likely worry if they do not know what a statement indicates. The easiest way to handle this is to undertake your child training using what they fully grasp. This means focusing on the declaration or on the aspects of a declaration that they previously informed about. This is a functional way to eliminate wrong replies. The pupil recognizes one of the key phrases is a potential answer, and if it won’t go with the query, they’ve previously increased the potentials of picking the best solution

One more technique to implement this approach is to have review and preparing in suffixes and prefixes. As soon as a student understands a few of the characteristic statements,  though they do not know the root statement, they’ll be qualified to decide or leave out some of the choices or answers.

Regardless of the fact that attaining the SSAT may be infuriating, there are many convincing guidelines that can simply increase your kid’s SSAT scores. The key element is to begin earlier. Applying a web based training assistance provide you with even more support. Private School Exam is highly recommended and will give your child a boost before taking the exam. Consider  internet based examination preparation strategies for further improment of SSAT scores.

SSAT scores find the best way to prepare for the school admission test

SSAT Scores Knowledge

To have a basic understanding about the scoring system in SSAT is one of the important steps of preparation. It makes the student aware of the test he is about to take. To get hold of the criterion of measurement that you will have to deal with makes you more secure about your attempt in the test. Furthermore, there are lots of tips that can be derived from the features of SSAT scores, which help in guiding your preparation technique and give an improvement to your performance.

What do SSAT Scores Indicate?
SSAT is scored by counting the number of points produced by the responses given by the student. Each query is given the same value while scoring. Four out of five sections in SSAT gets a numerical score, while the writing section is not scored. For the two Quantitative (Math) sections, only one score is stated. Consequently, the score report contains four scaled scores, which are as follows:

Verbal Section Score – This shows the students vocabulary abilities and skills of logically relating ideas as it represents the students attempt in the queries based on synonyms and antonyms.
Quantitative Section Score – This is a measure of the students mathematical capabilities. It shows the level of skills and abilities in concepts connected to arithmetic, algebra, geometry and other quantifiable concepts.
Reading Comprehension Score – The score indicate what the student understands. It is a measure of the student’s understanding of unseen written text.
· Total Scaled Score – This is the whole score received in all sections of the SSAT.

Scoring Scale used in SSAT
Students in grades 5 to 7 is using a different scoring scale than the students in grades 8 to 11. For the Lower level, the scoring scale used for Verbal, Quantitative and Reading Comprehension sections is from 440 to 710. The total score is the sum of the scores combined, and is written on a scale of 1320 to 2130. For Upper level the scale is 500 to 800 for the scores in Verbal, Quantitative and Reading Comprehension sections. Therefore, the Total score is reported between 1500 and 2400.

Writing Section
The writing section is not assessed by anyone. Nonetheless, a copy of the student’s text sample goes together with the score report when it is sent to different schools selected by you. This document is then being viewed, read or assessed by the admission board. The board could use the writing sample to foresee the students writing capabilities, expression, language abilities etc. The document could also reveal the students capabilities in organization and presentation. Therefore, the student must make it a point to write tidily and strikingly.

Other Features of SSAT Score Report
In addition to the scaled scores, the score report comments on other data as well, which are as follows.
· Percentile Ranks (for all categories)
· Estimated National Percentile Ranks – grades 5 to 9 only.
· Predicted 12th Grade SAT Score – in grades 7 to 10

Percentile Ranks – Percentile ranks are given for all scores and differ from 1 to 99. It indicates the fraction of students who have scored lower than the score achieved by you in a certain category. It compares the applicant with SSAT students of the past 3 years.

Estimated National Percentile Rank – It’s a calculated merely for students in the grades 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. The National Percentile rank is a nationwide evaluation of all students in the same grade. This is a superior assessment as it contains a greater group of students and not only the students who have completed the SSAT.

Receiving the report
In General, SSAT score report is sent to schools approximately 2 weeks after the test. The score reports are sent both by e-mail and snail mail. Students may send their score report to two schools at no charge. The score may be sent to more schools through the SSAT Account Management. They will charge you a transaction fee for adding or cancelling the score report.
Families usually receive the report 2-3 days after the release to schools. As mentioned previously, the report sent to families doesn’t contain the writing sample that the schools receive. , as does the report sent to schools.  Families receive the report through mail, FedEx and e-mail.

Good Scores
It is obvious that you benefit from taking the test in several ways. If you haven’t scored fine in SSAT, the scores help to identify your faults and learn from them. On the other side, if you get a good score, you can profit from the consequences in the admission process. High scores are the only rescuer when other conditions considered by schools are not impressive enough. Nevertheless, when good SSATs are combined with remarkable performance in school it results in an application that can’t be declined by any school authority. While most schools view these scores in a different manner, usually everything above 2000 is considered to be sufficient by most.

How to maximize your SSAT Scores
Only when the student gets top scores can you expect to have maximum benefits from SSAT.
As SSAT is not an accomplishment test, it is a potential to leave behind the blues of your earlier scores in lower grades.
Test preparation for SSAT needs to be done with great care and attention preferably with a test prep system like Private School Exam. This is essential In order to maximize your score. Private School Exam prep system gives you a huge number of sample exam questions and practice sessions during preparation. Practice from trying example queries and practice tests aids in applying your abilities and checking yourself where you are making mistakes.

Though, this understanding indirectly affects your level of self-confidence as well as aids you to plan out a training strategy. Consequently, the importance of getting acquainted with the SSAT scoring system in advance of taking the test ought to be considered by every candidate. Good Luck with you exam preparations!
